John McDonough

John McDonough, CBE, became Director and Chairman of the Company in September 2014.

John had previously served as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Carillion Plc, the construction and support services firm, from 2000 to 2011. During his leadership, John is credited for having transformed Carillion to become a full support services provider of construction, business services and facilities management and ushered in acquisitions including the £554m takeover of Alfred McAlpine, UK’s second largest contractor, in 2008, and the £291m acquisition of Mowlem, a construction and civil engineering company. Following the formation of Al-Futtaim Carillion (formerly Al Futtaim Tarmac), John oversaw successful negotiations of major construction contracts in Abu Dhabi, Dubai and other Middle East markets including the £550m contract with ALDAR for the Al Muneera development and the New York University Campus in Abu Dhabi in partnership with Mubadala Development, for a contract worth £570m.

Prior to Carillion Plc, John was Vice President of Facilities Management for Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) operations at Johnson Controls, leading the development for integration of facilities management for the outsourcing market. John also grew within the company serving as Vice President for both Europe and the Asia Pacific over the course of nine years. This includes an automotive systems joint-venture in South Africa, which employed in excess of 5000 people.

John joined Carillion bringing his strategy and experience in developing service-related businesses for private finance, infrastructure management and integrated facilities management and quadrupling the company’s value as a top FTSE 250 business.

His services to the industry earned him a CBE in 2011.
