An Integrated Business in an Integrated African Community

Integration is a key principle for us at Sunbird as an operating company in East Africa. The company is an integrated support services platform, with a presence across the East Africa region. Together with the integration of our group of companies, we are also committed to financial integration, risk management, and coordinated communications. By focusing on the integration of our on-ground operating companies, Sunbird are able to provide integrated services to new and existing clients whom have market entry and expansion strategies in East Africa and become the trusted service provider for our clients.

Regional integration is taking place all over Africa. Sunbird operates in the East African Community (EAC), Southern African Development Community (SADC), Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA), Community of Sahel-Saharan States (CEN-SAD) and the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) regional economic communites. The African Development Bank (AfDB) identifies five key dimensions for integration:

- Regional Infrastructure

- Financial and Macroeconomic Integration

- Free Movement of People

- Trade Integration

- Productive Integration

Regional Integration in EAC and SADC

According to AfDB, EAC scores highly in areas of trade, production, and movement of people, with regional infrastructure also moving in a positive direction.

Kenya, Zambia and Uganda all score highly in trade integration. Kenya is the best performer for regional integration in Africa and topped three out of the four regional economic communities in which it is a member. This is primarily due to its low custom duty and sizeable share in regional trade.

East Africa is rated as the most integrated region in Africa and Sunbird has positioned itself as an integrated services provider in the region.
